Ideas for Smudging your space, to prepare
for the world peace meditation

A guideline for a simple Smudging Ceremony

1) Some sacred (white) sage, (or if you prefer use the 4 sacred herbs).
the amount depends on how large the actual space is, that you like to smudge.
2) fire from hearth or an open fire, stove, matches or a lighter.
3) a shell, little bowl, or plate.
3) a feathered fan is preferably, but you can use one feather, or your own hand
5) Awareness of the four (wind) directions or a compass
6) a piece of coal , not really necessary but can be handy while using more herbs
   (
coals comes in a roll wrapped in aluminum foil containing several pieces).
Be aware when using a coal at the bottom of you bowl / the plate can become very

HOT, therefore we also use a flat piece of stone underneath the coal.
All tools are mostly available in shops where they sell metaphysical stuff.

For sacred global meditations like today, we normally prefer to use four sacred herbs, containing
white sage, copalli (amber/ hardened / sticky sap from pine trees), cedar (from the garden) and
tobacco (toxic free) or other herbs that you like or are used to.

Just using sage by itself will also do the job splendidly however.

Before you doing your smudging, you might like to put out all the crystals, crystalline head friends, pictures of guides, angels, deceased love ones, etc ... and other sacred tools or equipment, so they are very ready for the smudging.

You then take your shell / bowl / plate out and place your sage or sacred herbs inside and light it. If you have never done a smudging before, we suggest to try burning your sacred plant, one time in advance,
so you know what can happen during the smudging.

When using the 4 sacred herbs with a piece of coal, (first light the coal at the bottom) we suggest to
get yourself a flat stone (from your garden or in the woods) and put your hot coal first on the flat stone and then into your shell/ bowl or onto the plate. Otherwise you might burn you hand, as your shell/ bowl plate can become
VERY HOT. When you only use sacred sage this is not necessary,

Sacred Smudging ceremony for cleansing our aura
First light the sage or the sacred herbs with fire. Personally we prefer open hearth fire or matches.

We smudge our own aura first, as we like to be clean before we smudge others or other sacred items.
Using the smoke which swirls from the sage / herbs and by using the feather or our own hand, to
spread the smoke around the person or the object to be smudged.

I, Blue Arrow Rainbow Eagle Woman, am not a Native American by birth in this current lifetime.
Therefore, we might do this slightly different than the original way of native smudging.  But this guideline is based on upon our experiences around smudging.

Next, we start with saying inwardly or loudly 'I honor all my Relations'.

We then let the smoke of sage or herbs go through our aura starting with the head and downwards on the left side and then the right side of our body. We use our feather or hand to spread the smoke.
Following this, we smudge the front part of our body / main chakra system, beginning with the root /
base chakra (start from the bottom and moving up). When the smoke reaches our face, we might like to inhale the smoke (only if you prefer this).  Then we continue with smudging the back part of our body.

When we are all by ourselves we like to put the shell/ bowl/ plate on the ground and let the smoke spiral up and do the back cleaning this way. It might be more easy to just ask one of the other participants (if someone is present) or your family to smudge your back. Please remember to also smudge your hands
and feet too!

Now we are ready to continue with this simple Ceremony:

First we honor Mother Earth and Father Sky holding the shell / bowl to the ground and then hold it up towards the Sky. We Thank these spirits for all their blessing and support during our life and during this meditation and ask for their protection.

Next, we then honor the 4 direction (clock-wise, beginning with the East, representing new beginnings)
After this, we honor the 5 sacred elements Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit/Ether (your Inner-Soul) by giving our thanks. We can also thank and ask our other Light guides / Light Angel-friends, Nature spirit friends etc... for their blessing and help during this meditation.

For the ladies

When you are in your Moon-time (you have your period), you might like to stand over the smoke
for a few minutes to let the smoke clean your lower body parts even more thoroughly. This is NOT a
must condition but merely a suggestion. I always like to do it this way. It feels great!!

When we have smudged yourself / ourselves, then we can start smudging the room beginning in the East corner of the room / space where we will be meditating. We again thank the spirits of the East for participating and their protection. Also we ask for their blessing and support during our meditation.  While walking from corner to corner (East, South , West, North) we spread the smoke with our feather / hand so we seal into our space a full protection of the area we will be meditating within.

Then we proceed with smudging all the (sacred) tools present, your crystalline friends and family,
pictures etc.  We just gently let the smoke flow over and around the objects.

We are now ready to start the meditation.

Be aware that smudging can take a little time, especially when you have lots of special items/ objects or when it is your first time to perform this little ceremony.

Make sure you have safely put away the shell / bowl / plate with the rest of the smoking sage or herbs.

In Love, Light, Peace and Joy,
Walk in Beauty,
See you all on the first of January, Loved ones.

HOW TO SMUDGE:

Place cedar, sage, sweetgrass into a Clay or Catlinite Bowl.
Light it carefully and let the smoke start to rise, it carries your prayers to The Great Spirit.

Rub your hands in the smoke: to cleanse, purify and sanctify them;
Scoop the smoke into your hands and bring it to your head: so that you will think good thoughts - no anger, avarice, jealousy or hate.

Bring the smoke to your eyes:
so you will see the world
around you in a good way.

Bring the smoke to the throat: so you will speak always in kindness
and in non-judgmental ways.

Bring the smoke to the heart: so you feel connected to
all living beings in a loving way.

Bring the smoke to the solar plexus: so that your emotions
connect you with Mother Earth.

For Women, bring the smoke to the womb: so your
life giving energies go out into the world in balance and harmony
.
For Men, bring the smoke to your Sex: so that it will not rule
your existence thus allowing you to live in balance and harmony
.

Finally, Bring the smoke under the feet:
this way the dark side
of your soul and the world will not follow in your footsteps
.
Now, this Sacred Smoke must be given to the Old Ones, this way
they will be included within your Spirit, Heart, Mind, Body amd Soul.

You do this with the Sacred Fan, by FANNING the Sacred Smoke
in the Seven Directions asking each for their help and assistance.

The Seven Directions are: East, South, West, North, Above, Below and Within.

Ah, do you hear that? Listen carefully,
for the Ancestors have awakened from their deep sleep and
have come along with the spirit of the smudge.

They are here to help you heal. As is the way with all things sacred,
great respect must be given to the process of smudging
for a relationship is being forged between you, the plant spirits,
the Ancestors and Great Spirit.
It is a powerful Medicine, and must be respected.

And so it is . . .

Ho! Mitakuye oyasin. Hecetu Yelo !! . . . All my relatives, it is indeed so..!!
