In November of last year, my wife and I had the fortune to finally visit Australia (Hooray). We were sponsored by our friend Norm (from Sydney), who had accompanied us to Peru in October. Norm helped us to have a booth at the Festival for Body-Mind-Spirit in Sydney (November 22nd - 26th) and we also were accompanied by our friend Joke, who just happens to be a caretaker of three quartz crystal skulls. It was an absolutely amazing experience watching the Australians reaction to the two crystal skulls at our booth. But I would imagine the Reader is probably asking by now, "What the heck is a Crystal Skull?" (please excuse my slang, after all I am one of those chaps from the states ...)
A Crystal Skull is an object composed of quartz crystal shaped in the form (or approximating that) of a human skull. There are two types of crystal skulls that exist, ones which have been crafted today by a modern-day carvers, referred to as contemporary crystal skulls and the other type is known as an old or ancient crystal skull because they have been uncovered within or near various ancient ruins. The most interesting type of crystal skulls are the old/ancient ones especially those which are human size or larger. In working with these ancient crystal skulls, we have found an incredible energy connected to this artifact and many strange psychic phenomena.
The places where the human sized ancient crystal skulls have been found predominately are in Mexico or Central America with other reports of some skulls being discovered in South America, Europe and Russia. Thus far, four types of ancient quartz skulls are known including clear quartz, amethyst, rose quartz and smoky quartz. The contemporary carved Crystal Skulls are being manufactured in Mexico, Brazil, Germany & Nepal and there are many local crystal stores which sell them. Although modern carvers are getting closer to duplicate the sophisticated outer form of some of the known ancient skulls, the strange phenomena associated with these ancient artifacts is still puzzling to scientists and archaeologist (and also even people who study metaphysics and paranormal subjects!)
For example, several (purportedly) ancient crystal skulls have been brought to Hewlett-Packard (HP), located near the San Francisco area in California. HP has long been known as a manufacturer of computer printers and systems, in addition to having one of the most extensive scientific and crystal research laboratories in the world. The scientists working at HP who have had a chance to examine some of these ancient crystal skulls were hard pressed to explain how a primitive culture could have carved crystal into such precise shapes and especially against the natural axis of the crystal without the use of sophisticated tools. The theory about the axis is being disputed by modern day carvers however.
Crystal is a substance which has a hardness of 7 as compared to diamond which is rated a hardness of 10. It requires either other quartz crystals or special diamond tools to attempt to carve a crystal skull. The hardest part to duplicate in carving a crystal skull are the various angles and shapes of the bone which comprise the skull and the jaw. Most ancient crystal skulls discovered are single piece skulls with only the Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull showing a detachable jaw (see the Rose Quartz Skull listed below). Even utilizing the most sophisticated lasers of today, it would be an incredible challenge to precisely cut a crystal skull to exactly match our own human skull. Of course this does not even begin to address the strange psychic phenomena that has been recorded to occur in the presence of an ancient Crystal Skull, which in my humble opinion is the most important reason for the existence of the crystal skulls and a tangible clue as to their ultimate purpose.
A Brief Summary of known Ancient Crystal Skulls
The list of ancient crystal skull below is based on various parapsychological research done on a number of skulls. There is no known process that can date a crystal skull. Carbon 14 dating works only on organic substances of which quartz crystal is not. Therefore, all we can do at the present time is work with trained sensitives and observe people's experiences in the presence of a crystal skull. If a large majority of these individuals believe that a particular crystal skull feels to be very old (a thousand or more years), then we generally consider this would be an ancient crystal skull. We are hoping in the future to come up with specific criteria and classes to rate each new crystal skull that appears.
The Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull -- a human size and shaped, clear quartz skull, 11.7 lbs, two pieces with a separate jaw, discovered in Belize in 1924 in the ruins of a Mayan City by F. A. Mitchell-Hedges. This skull is currently near Toronto, Canada with Anna Mitchell-Hedges, his adopted daughter. The skull is an almost absolute copy of our own human skull except it is circular in the temples and has a handle like form in the cheekbones. When the skull is not activated, it is clear as glass. "MAX", the Texas Crystal Skull -- one piece, single clear quartz, 18 lbs, held by the Parks of Houston, Texas, who received the skull from a Tibetan trained healer when he passed on. The healer received the skull as a gift from the local people in Guatemala. In the past year and a half, "MAX" has been touring the United States and has participated in a number of Native American ceremonies.
The "British" Crystal Skull -- a single piece clear quartz skull, held in the British Museum of Man, in London, England since 1898, purportedly found or bought by a soldier of fortune in Mexico in the late 1890's. This skull is more cloudy than the Mitchell-Hedges and its facial features appear not to be finished. The "Paris" Crystal Skull -- a single piece of clear quartz, held in the Trocadero Museum in Paris, France, also purported obtained by a soldier of Fortune in Mexico in the late 1890's. It has a hole cut from top to bottom, purported to hold a Christian Cross and has the most primitive of faciail features and design within this list.
The "Amethyst" Crystal Skull -- a single piece of amethyst crystal discovered in a Mayan cache of artifacts in Mexico by a Mayan Brotherhood in the early 1900's. It is purported this skull maybe in Texas right now and for sale. The distinction features are the circular indentations in the temple and a white squiggley line that goes the circumference of the skull ( Editor's Note: This was the first ancient crystal skull that I experienced in person.... ). The "Mayan" Crystal Skull, a single piece of clear quartz, found in Guatemala in 1912, similar in shape and design to the Amethyst Crystal Skull pictured here. The current whereabouts are unknown.
"ET" -- a smoky quartz single piece skull, discovered on the property of a Mayan family in Central America in the early 1900's which has a slightly pointed head and the teeth has an overbite (Joke Van Dieten, caretaker). A Peruvian Crystal Skull has been reported in the northern part of this country -- clear quartz with blue in the eyes and blue seen from on top of the head .... currently held by a primitive tribe in this region of Peru.
The Smithsonian Institute -- Recently received a 31 lb. clear quartz crystal skull purported from an anonymous sources. The size of this skull is very large and it is hollow on the inside, it could fit over a person's head.
How I met Joke Van Dieten and her crystal skulls
In April of 1991, I was in Los Angeles participating at a local holistic conference. I had been invited to speak about the Crystal Skulls. I have a friend Eric, who is the owner of a beautiful crystal store in this area. He had a booth at the conference for his store and told me that he had received a new crystal skull from a family in Central America. When he first told me this for some reason I had the impression it was just a contemporary carved skull. I soon discovered this was not the case and the person who was going to buy the skull was also in town at this time. Eric permitted me an opportunity to meet with this new owner and see the skull. This skull is a one piece smoky quartz skull that has a pointed head and the teeth come to an overbite. Thus, when the new guardian, Joke (pronounced Yo-ka) Van Dietan saw this skull for the first time, was my first time. Joke decided to call the skull "ET" because the skull looks a bit extraterrestrial. I did have an opportunity to meditate with this skull and definitely felt it was an ancient one but that it was not fully activated.
Joke has a vision of obtaining twelve different skulls. Since her acquisition of "ET" she also purchased: Shui Ting Er - an amazonite skull discovered in Mongolia; The Luv Skull - a Rose Quartz Skull discovered near Luv Russia in a mound containing artifacts from the Scylanthians and lastly, the Jesuit Skull, which is purported connected to the Jesuits and possibly St. Francis of Assisi, this last one is a third of size human skull that is made from clear quartz. It has been very interesting working with Joke, she is a dynamic individual who loves living on the edge. In November/December of 1995, we traveled with Joke to Australia to share two of the four skulls she has purchased. At our booth at the Body-Mind-Spirit Festival, between 150-200 people had a chance to experience these two crystal skulls. To the best of our knowledge this was the first time publicly (always leave room for the unexpected I say) Australians had an opportunity to experience an ancient Crystal Skull. I would guess that approximately 95% of the people who visited us at the booth were able to feel an energy from the skulls. One person even told me they had a profound dream the night following the contact with the skulls.

Other Characteristics of the Crystal Skulls and How Many
There are other crystal skulls that have been reported which some people feel are ancient, but the ones I have listed in this article are the primary skulls generally agreed to be quite old or ones that I feel we must consider. As to how many ancient (master) crystal skulls exists, there is a magic number of "13" that is discussed by many sensitives and reseachers who have physically worked with various of the known ancient crystal skulls. I personally feel due to the similarities found in the shape and size of the skulls which exist, that we will uncover quite a number more of such crystal skulls than this number. I would prefer to say that I believe there exists different sets of "13" skulls that might work together in some capacity. In time, we will have a better idea of the exact number as more and more crystal skulls come forward (in 1995 I heard about five new skulls as an example).
What type of unusual phenomena has occurred around the Crystal Skulls? Some people who have been in the presence of the Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull have told the owner that they received a healing of some type or found that their psychic abilities became expanded afterwards. Other people have fallen into a trance when they are around this skull. But the most dramatic phenomena which occurs around the Crystal Skulls are the holographic images which appear inside of the crystal skulls when they are activated. This activation has occurred by exposing the crystal skull to a combination of color, light, sound or even human energy. Some of the scenes that people report seeing within the skulls (this is also called scrying) are UFOs, Big Foot, Unicorns, flying people, mermaids, dolphins, whales, mountains, other Crystal Skulls, alien beings, forest, caves, etc ... To this date, no one is quite sure of the exact process which generates these pictures because to do so would mean we would have to admit that it is possible for a solid object to change its form. Even when the co-authors of our book have done public lectures just sharing slides of the ancient crystal skulls or video, there are always people who see these holographic images within the images of the crystal skulls!
Purpose and Theories about the Crystal Skulls
Based upon a parapsychological analysis of these artifacts, the following theories have been proposed:
We believe the Crystal Skulls are a form of computer which are able to record energy and vibration that occur around the them. The skull will pictorially replay all events or images of the people who have come into contact with them (i.e. - they contain the history of our world). Just as our modern computers can receive or send information to other computers all over the world (the best example is Internet), so too can the Crystal Skulls send information amongst themselves. We believe, as the ancient legends describe, that the Crystal Skulls can and have been used for healing. They have played a key role in many ancient cultures who saw the skull as the Godhead. We have also found a very strong link with extraterrestrials and feel that beings not from our world either brought these skulls to our world for some use or presented to us the techniques to fashion them. We believe that the holographic images of UFOs and Aliens that are displayed various ancient crystal skulls and have been observed by various researchers and sensitives, adds support to such a theory.If any of the readers have additional information about the Crystal Skulls or an experiences they would like to share, please feel free to contact us at the address listed below. We have had several spiritual channels suggest the skulls were created in Atlantis or Lemuria. That the Crystal Skulls could have originally been a human bone skulls that were changed to crystal through the power of the mind. Also, that the skulls are connected to people who live in the Inner Earth. This idea presents the theory that our earth is Hollow with a small central sun at its core and openings at the poles. Gravity, which is located at the center of the Earth's crust, 800 miles thick, hold objects and people to the inner or outer surface. Supposedly, 13 master Crystal Skulls hold the genetic coding of Twelve Inner Earth Tribes and the thirteenth or central skull represents the family of these tribes. Also when I was in Australia last year, I had a strong feeling that the Aborigines might have in their possession a crystal skull. Only time will tell.
I personally feel that the Crystal Skulls are not only here to share ancient knowledge and wisdom, but to assist in awakening our race to higher spiritual laws and understanding of itself. They are announcing that many of the ancients tools are coming back now because the planet is ready to use them again in a harmonious way. The Crystal Skulls are a tangible sign that indeed a Golden Age is fast approaching our world. They are inwardly calling those who have worked with them in past lifetimes so they can become fully activated to help connect humanity to our inner divinity and actualization of higher universal knowledge.
